10 Things You Can Thank God for Today (That We Often Overlook)

Sometimes gratitude flows easily on the big blessings in our life…a job promotion, the birth of a child, or a long-awaited answer to months of prayer. But God’s Word says to give thanks in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

In case you need a little help with gratitude today, here are 10 little (but oh so sweet) things you can thank God for, no matter your circumstance:

1. A Fresh Start

Every new day is a gift from God, filled with possibilities and hope. Even if yesterday was hard, today is an opportunity to begin again in His grace.

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23

2. The Ability to Worship

We have the incredible privilege to lift our hearts and voices to God. Worship reminds us of His greatness and love in every season of life.

“Come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.” Psalm 95:6

3. A Moment of Quiet

Even a few minutes of silence can refresh our hearts and minds. It’s in these moments that we can truly listen for God’s voice and find peace.

“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10

4. A Purpose For Today

God has created each of us for a reason and placed unique gifts inside us. Discovering and living out that purpose brings meaning to every day.

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10

5. The Prayers of Others

When others pray for us, we are reminded that we don’t have to walk alone. Their faith and love support us in ways we often don’t see.

“Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:16

6. Daily Hang-Ups

Even challenges have a purpose in shaping our character and faith. God uses trials to teach patience, perseverance, and trust in Him.

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.” James 1:2-4

7. A Reason to Hope

Hope reminds us that God’s promises are true and His plans are good. Even when life feels uncertain, we can trust Him for the future.

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

8. Small Acts of Kindness

Every kind word, smile, or gesture is a way to show God’s love to someone else. Even the smallest act can have a ripple effect of goodness in the world.

“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works.” Hebrews 10:24

9. Laughter

Shared joy is a sweet gift from God that lifts the spirit and lightens the heart. Laughing together (or to yourself) reminds us of His goodness and presence in everyday life.

“A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.” Proverbs 17:22

10. God Delights In You

No matter what happens in life, God’s love for us never changes. It surrounds us, sustains us, and gives us peace in every circumstance.

“The LORD your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17
